The immune system is responsible for the defence of our organism against external invaders (bacteria, fungi and viruses). When this system is affected, the chances of contracting any of these microorganisms are higher. In this current pandemic state of COVID-19, we need to be more careful with our immunity, and some practices may be essential to help us with this.

Food has a tremendous importance –

There is no food or vitamin capable of fighting the new coronavirus, but some foods we eat can strengthen our immune systems. Many vitamins and minerals have antiviral action. Foods rich in selenium are wheat flour, egg, chicken, bean, etc. Zinc can be found in oysters and seafood, the meat of all kinds, almonds, etc. We must remember the importance of consuming foods rich in vitamins A, B, C, D and E.

Physical exercise: make you stronger –

Physical exercise helps to enhance mental health and strengthens physical health. With social isolation being recommended, it is essential to note that activities should be carried out in the residential environment. When they occur in open spaces, they should not be held in groups or promote social interaction. Some options are to see dance tutorials, sit-ups, jumping Jacks, go down and upstairs, walk around the yard, etc. – the important thing is to move. Above all, maintain some basic rules:

  • Wash your hands often thoroughly and maintain social distancing.
  • Wear a mask and sanitize your hands from time to time.
  • Don’t touch your nose, eyes and mouth with bare hands.
  • If you have a fever, cough or shortness of breath, go to the doctor.
  • Maintain good hygiene and immune system.

Regular sleep is essential for you –

Irregular sleep also compromises your immune system. Having a good night’s sleep helps in cell renewal and promotes a more excellent balance of hormones. It is recommended that an adult individual tries 7 to 8 hours of sleep per night. According to doctors, some tips for this are: avoid drinking alcohol and drinks or foods that contain caffeine, have a proper routine and try to leave the environment at a pleasant temperature.

Consumption of alcohol and tobacco –

According to studies, excessive consumption of alcoholic beverages weakens our immune system. In this time of social isolation, it is common to be a little confused by our sensations. And this can affect our mental health. During this period, the level of anxiety can increase because we do not know when it will end. We are afraid of the proportion that the disease can take, and we are insecure. But, that doesn’t mean you consume excessive alcohol and tobacco.

Conclusion: Stress reduction is mandatory

We know that social isolation is painful and can lead to increased stress and a lack of patience. There are some actions that we can take during the day. Meditation is one of them. But if you have never practised, you can relax in many other ways, such as reading a book, listening to music you like, watching a childhood movie, cooking, etc.

Remember, better and healthy habits always payback. Stick to it
