How to fix a cracked iPhone Screen?

You’ve recently dropped your iPhone, and the screen is cracked. When your iPhone screen is shattered, it can be difficult to know what to do, which repair option is best, and whether you should repair it at all. In this article, I’ll explain what to do if the screen on your iPhone is cracked and walk you through the various repair options.

First and foremost, stay safe.

When an iPhone screen cracks or shatters, a large number of sharp glass shards protrude. The last thing you want to do after dropping your iPhone is cut your hand on broken glass and have to go to the ER.

If your iPhone screen is completely shattered, cover it with a piece of clear packing tape.

Determine the extent of the damage: how broken is it?

The next thing you should consider is how broken the screen is. Is it just a hairline crack? Are there any flaws? Is the screen completely broken?

If the damage is minor, a trip to the Apple Store may be worthwhile to see if an exception can be made — but such cases are extremely rare.

Apple does not cover physical damage to iPhones — even if you have AppleCare+, there is still a service fee. Impact points are usually obvious, and an Apple Genius can spot them right away. You won’t be able to talk your way out of a cracked iPhone screen.

Never fix it

You can always choose to do nothing if the screen on your iPhone is cracked. I don’t advise doing it yourself unless you’re completely fine with the worst-case scenario: an iPhone that is bricked.

You might as well fix your iPhone right now if:

  • You want to give someone else the iPhone.
  • You intend to trade it in.
  • You intend to sell it again.
  • In the future, you want to upgrade to a newer iPhone.

Can a cracked phone screen be repaired at home?

It’s true that you can find everything you need online to replace a broken phone screen, but it’s not as simple as it may seem. Make sure you’re prepared for this challenge by asking yourself these questions before you visit any online market for spares.

Do you have any expertise in fixing electronics?

You probably shouldn’t attempt to disassemble a smartphone if your only expertise with electronics repair is changing the batteries in remote control. Smartphones are intricate machinery, and one little screw that is lost or a flex wire that is broken might render the gadget useless. A phone screen replacement is one of the easier smartphone repairs to carry out if you do have any electronics repair skills.

Do you have a secure work area at your disposal?

Professional repair specialists have set up their work areas with everything they require to securely repair shattered screens. This typically contains practical tools like a magnetic work surface, suction cups, and an antistatic wrist band that keeps repair technicians grounded to prevent electrostatic discharge, or ESD, from accidentally zapping the electronics they are working on. It’s challenging to do a secure damaged iPhone screen repair or a Samsung cracked screen repair that will endure over time without these workspace necessities.

Do you fear nullifying your warranty?

Check the warranty of the item before beginning a DIY cracked screen repair. If the equipment is still under warranty and is relatively recent, you may be qualified for a free or inexpensive repair or replacement. The manufacturer will not be able to assist with any further issues with a device once it has been repaired by someone other than a licensed repair provider, rendering the warranty invalid.
